Harmful interference and debris pose threats to the sustainable use of radio-frequencies, ITU elected officials said Sept. 10 during a two day public event on space sustainability.  Over 10,000 satellites have been launched over the last decade, while the "mass launched annually" rose 10-fold, ITU Sec.-Gen. Doreen Bogdan-Martin said.  A PP-22 mandate "underscored the urgent need to review technologies" used in the GSO, and respond to the rise in NGSO satellites, she said.  NGSO filings keep rising for coordination and notification, ITU Radiocommunication Bureau Director Mario Maniewicz said.
