DRAFT PUBLIC CONSULTATION includes possible new regulatory initiatives to spur connectivity, and on general rules and economic management of service provision, gear certification, spectrum use and caps, and in other areas, an Anatel Brazil spokesperson told us.

Anatel in Brazil described the impulses most likely for updates during regulatory work in a draft agenda teed up for consultation for the period 2025 to 2026, including:  
  • Preparation of tender notice for auctions of radio frequencies; 
  • Preparation of the tender notice for the 700 MHz band auction; 
  • Simplification of telecommunications regulation and services; 
  • Reassessment of the rules applicable to community networks; 
  • Users' duties regulations;
  • Reassessment of the telecom regulations considering the possible use of artificial intelligence along the entire value chain of service delivery;
  • Proposal for amendment of resolution-level regulation on cybersecurity applied to the telecommunications sector, and which was approved by Resolution n. 740 of 21 December 2020;
  • Reassessment of the regulation of relevant markets, approved by Resolution n. 600 of 8 November 2012 and updated by Resolution n. 694 of 17 July 2018;
  • Reassessment of the maximum limits for the amount of radio spectrum established by Resolution n. 703, of 1 November 2018;
  • Revision of the spectrum usage regulation; 
  • Update of the assignments and destinations of the frequency band allocation, assignment and distribution plan (PDFF 2023-2024 and 2025-2026), and; 
  • Evaluation of the need to include rules on sustainability in the use of orbital resources, according to guidelines from international bodies and the various aspects involved, such as environmental and competitive.
